COMPARING: Designer Brands vs Cheaper Alternatives

Designer
vs
Inexpensive Alternatives

To buy designer pieces or knock off versions is the age old question in the world of fashion. There are a fair amount of positives and negatives weighing against this deliberation just like in every great dispute, but are they something you can overlook just to save some money. Inquiries such as price, quality, convenience and comfort should be pondered on because such an investment can mean thousands of dollars – and for the major percentage of the community that can’t afford this, it may come in handy to buy cheaper versions of these items.

We all know that the luxurious designer brands have designer price tags to accompany them, but on the flip side, if you can actually afford it- then buy it! I’m all for paying extra for quality pieces that you can “invest in” and wear for many years to come; if you are also someone who passes clothing down through generations, then by all means go ahead. However, if you are someone who always has to be up to date with the every swaying trends in fashion then I would certainly recommend buying the cheaper alternatives but being smart about it! For example, instead of buying Gucci loafers which have a price tag scaling up to $940, you can buy $160 Tony Bianco loafers as an alternative - these still look extremely similar and are made from great quality materials as Tony Bianco is still a middle range designer.

Below are some examples of statement pieces and items which have made the top trends list of 2017; I will show you how you can swap designer brands for low-cost alternatives to save burning a hole in your Saint Laurent purse πŸ˜‰ ... (Keep in mind some of these might be Australian brands, however you can order them online via the links provided)πŸ’›

1. Luxury Brand: Manohki Officer Hats. This is a famous Romanian brand whose hats have been worn by some of the biggest models of this era such as Kendall Jenner.
They equate to $947 AUD or $727 US Dollars.

Alternative Brand: Missguided & ASOS 'Baker Boy Hats'. These baker boy hats make the perfect cheaper alternative as one is faux leather fabric and the other is felt. Both come in at under $40 AUD and are a charming piece to wear while the trend is still current.

2.  Luxury Brand: Black Designer Handbags (Chanel & YSL). This trend is so classic & I believe it's really important to invest in an expensive, good quality and long lasting black designer hand bag. However, if a price tag of over $500 is far to much for your budget, then maybe the alternative brands will suite you better πŸŽ”.

The below Chanel & YSL handbags have price tags of $3,600 AUD and $2,400 AUD.

Alternative Brand: Colette, Basque & Furla Black Handbags. Colette and Basque are two of my favourite Australian handbag designers. Colette has such a great price tag for the quality and design you receive and Basque make the most amazing simple and basic clothing and handbags! All of these brands come in at under $300 AUD with Furla being the more expensive of the three.

3.  Luxury Brand: Gucci Loafers. I am absolutely infatuated with the loafer trend and Gucci is one of the best designers to slay this trendπŸŽ”. I must admit though that $2,000 AUD for shoes is just way more than I am prepared to pay for a trend that I believe will
go out of fashion very quickly

The below alternatives are a much better bargain and are still amazing quality.

Alternative Brand: Steve Madden & Tony Bianco. Tony Bianco is an extremely reputable Australian brand who makes designer quality handbags and shoes at an affordable price. These Steve Madden loafers were another favourite of mine that I had to share!

3.  Luxury Brand: Dolce & Gabbana Lemon and floral Dresses. Ok, Ok, so this isn't a top trend of 2017 but I am seeing these dresses everywhere and they are pretty much identical versions of Dolce and Gabbana style clothing. The lemon and brightly coloured print is such a big must have for spring/summer time as it's bright, fresh and projects a very European influence in its design. So below is an example of the D&G style clothing which generally costs up to and above $3,000 AUD.

Alternative Brand: StyleKeepers, Dissh and Melrose Avenue. You won't believe how incredibly similar the following dresses are to the Dolce and Gabbana designer dresses above! Don't get me wrong, it is amazing that you can buy something so cheap that people will most certainly mistake for the real thing... or maybe these days it's the other way around... even if you have the real thing, people are still going to think it's one of the cheaper options constantly floating around the market⧪

3.  Luxury Brand: 90's Vintage Sunglasses. Luxury brands such as Gucci, Elie Saab, Leisure Society & Courreges have released some amazing revamps of older 90's sunglasses which were made popular back in the day by celebrities like Brittney Spears. The price tag on the styles below range from $500 AUD to $2,000 AUD.

Alternative Brand: Dissh & Giant Vintage Sunglasses. These are just two of the many more brands that are making these types of vintage sunglasses. Dissh also sell the creation of the recent pairing of Quay Australia & Kylie Jenner which is a gorgeous collaboration (even though I am far from a Kylie fan). All of these glasses sit between $25 & $50 AUD⧪
