How to: Affordable Fashion into High End
Affordable Fashion & Statement Pieces
Buying clothes is a tedious process and for those who are up with the constantly changing trends, you would know it is coincidentally not a cheap experience. I personally need to buy a new item of clothing every single week, and not only that, I am happiest when i'm strolling around the mall noting new and exciting fashion and trend influences. So here is my dilemma - expense!
* I absolutely love to buy basics which you proceed to dress up with statement items - like a faux fur vest or studded black boots for an edgier look! These basics can be bought from places like H&M, Zara, Target, or anywhere that is reasonably priced but decently manufactured.
* Statement Pieces!!!!! - I live by statement pieces because you can re-wear them time and time again. I find statement pieces extremely versatile as they can literally change an outfit from average to runway worthy. For example, when I was in London I bought this beautiful pink and white floral handbag from Ted Baker - let's just say I never let it out of my site from the moment I left the store!
* Online shopping has become a major trend in the last decade and for good reason! Sometimes when you know exactly what you are looking for and can't be bothered interacting with a sales assistant, it's the quickest and easiest way to shop. What I love about online fashion stores like Boohoo or Pretty Little Thing is that they're constantly changing and updating what they sell, but not only that, they sell such a diverse range & high volume of clothing that you would be highly unlucky to appear at an event with the same outfit as someone else (which is a big deal in the highly lucrative world of fashion).
So collectively, the idea behind these three points is to dress yourself using basic & non-costly items, then build onto that blank canvas look with your statement piece/s. For an example of something I would personally put together (which won't match everyone's personal taste) is as follows:
Setting: Going out for dinner with a group of girlfriends in the middle of winter.
What I would wear:
Black stockings w/ high waisted black tailored shorts | Tight plain black body suit | Black Faux Fur coat | Leopard print ankle boots | Faded brown clutch bag |
I travel regularly and constantly try to buy most of my pieces from different places around the world - this is helpful because (as mentioned above) you never need to worry about wearing the same thing as one of your friends. I guess that's something about Australian Fashion that I dislike; everybody wears exactly the same outfits and they're seen over and over again throughout social media pages - remember it's good to follow the trends but try & put your own twist on them. To be different in fashion & to take a risk whilst being elegant and sophisticated is the best piece of advice I can give!
I'll finish this blog with one of my favourite quotes - "In a world full of Kardashian's, be an Audrey"
Ps. Audrey Hepburn, Miranda Kerr & Rosie Huntington Whiteley are my fashion & lifestyle idols as they embody elegance, originality and overall classic beauty!
