Airport Beauty
& Style
Airport style - This is actually a thing in this crazy world believe it or not! Looking fashionable whilst flying is an extremely hard thing to do unless you naturally have the most perfect skin, can sleep on the entire long haul flight, or fly business class and use the private showers on your lay overs.
For us mere mortals the above is probably not an option; we are left flaunting dry flaky skin with dark circles under our eyes all the while smelling like we haven't showered in two weeks!
I've traveled to and from Europe and USA countless times (as I personally live in Australia this is an extremely long flight for me) and every time I've made this journey I feel that I've gotten better and better at looking after myself whilst flying. From food, to fashion, to beauty and liquids - I'm going to share with you my beauty and fashion secrets of long and short haul travel and how I cope with the crazy hours in the air.
Tip 1. Comfy (yet stylish) Clothing
For me this is by far the most important tip. I cannot stand being uncomfortable on the best of days, but flying, that's the deal breaker for me. I try to avoid the following clothing:
- Wearing anything too tight and restricting to movement, for example; jeans, gym tights, tight dress, etc.
- Avoid wearing sandals (open shoes)
- Skirt/shorts/dresses that are too short
Clothing that I try to stick to when flying is always loose, baggy and of course comfortable (think stylish pajamas haha). I'm not oppose to a hat or beanie but if i'm fastening my hair back I always use a scrunchy as they don't pull on thee hair. I also opt for enclosed shoes that I can wear socks with so I can take them off mid flight. I'f you wanted to wear loafers (which I do this too), just take some socks in your bag and swap them during the flight. It's also good to pick an outfit with layers, that way you can take off and add whatever you want when the temperature fluctuates. Below are some of my top pick outfits for a comfortable long haul flight.
Disclaimer: Please keep in mind that short haul flights are totally different in my opinion, I usually wear heels and don't even care about comfort.
I would most likely wear something like what Miranda Kerr or Taylor Hill is wearing, but they all look comfortable yet extremely stylish to me 😊

Tip 2. Be skin prepared
This tip is my own personal savior!
I may start a long haul flight with a tiny bit of foundation and mascara on, however, this doesn't last long. I start about 3 hours into the flight by using makeup wipes to clean my skin, then I apply a hydrating mask. You might feel foolish mid flight putting a hydrating white sheet mask on your face but hey, it's just the price we pay for beauty! If this is a little too embarrassing, invest in a clear hydrating mask that you can put on for an hour or so and then head to the toilets to wash it off.
After my face mask I then apply a decent amount of moisturizer (including my neck)and constantly apply a good quality lip balm throughout the flight. I then try to sleep/watch movies/read and listen to music - then, right at the end of the flight i'll apply small under eye masks on my bags. These usually contain caffeine and make you look more human whilst exiting the plane.

Tip 3. Be food prepared
Before a long haul flight i'll always make a stop to Woolworth's the day before. You can buy packet snacks like turmeric nuts, protein bars and flavored chickpeas which are my favorites to take on flights. I know you get meals on long haul flights but I love to eat every 2 or so hours, hence I like to be prepared with healthy snacks!
Tip 4. Hydrate! Only drink water!
Pretty simple really, only drink water on your flight (and lots of it). The high altitudes of flying drys out your skin & constantly drinking water replenishes that moister loss. I won't lie though, I'm addicted to coffee and usually have 1 (or 2) during my flight. I ALWAYS avoid soft drinks, alcohol and juices as these are high in sugar and just so bad for you on or off a plane.
Tip 5. Pack perfume and a roll on deodorant stick
Long haul flights make you feel stale and tired - I always find that applying deodorant and perfume makes me feel just a little more awake and fresh until I reach my destination and have a proper shower.
Breaking up long haul flights and staying in your stop over destination for a night can also be a good idea to freshen up (unless you're like me and just want to get there)!

Tip 6. Invest in noise canceling headphones & an eye mask
Hear no evil, see no evil!
Noise canceling headphones are the absolute bomb! I know I sound like a 16 year old boy but hey, they're amazing. They block out even the loudest of sounds, even with the screaming infant two rows up, you'll sleep like the baby should! I always take an eye mask as well to pop over my eyes when sleeping, best investment I ever made.
Pro tip: Get a window seat and rest your pillow against it while sleeping, I can zone out for hours like that.

Tip 7. Wear socks
Last piece of advice, If you want to be comfy and get some rest it's a good idea to kick off your shoes. I always find that my feet get cold if I do this so be sure to wear cozy socks.
